Our Why
Introduction
Welcome to OUR WHY — a guide to Brooklyn Sports and Entertainment’s company purpose, goals, structure and culture. The ideas and concepts outlined in this book are not new. Over the past few years, we have defined values, goals and behaviors to guide what we pursue, how we act and what we do. This is a further articulation of those concepts, with tangible examples that bring them to life in a way that each of us can see how our roles support the big picture.
The Pyramid Framework
The pyramid serves as a framework consisting of four components.
The Why
Each of us chose to join BSE for different reasons, but we are aligned about where we are going and why: our purpose. Our WHY is more than just a statement; it’s our North Star. We came together to deliver bold, immersive experiences that embody the highest standards of creativity and hospitality.
The What
Our why is aspirational and cannot be fulfilled without specific goals to support it. In other words, we cannot achieve our WHY without our WHAT. Our goals are evergreen and successfully achieving them requires effective collaboration, cross-departmental synergy, and contributions from every member of our organization.
The How
Our operating model explains HOW different parts of the business work together. BSE is a growing organization, adding new businesses and venues to support our overarching purpose to create an ecosystem of unforgettable experiences.
The Who
The WHO addresses us as individuals and as a team. Collaboration is the key to success for a people business and a platform business, of which we are both. But true collaboration can only exist when there is mutual trust, coordination and collaboration through shared practices and expectations. That is why we have such a strong focus on our shared values and behaviors. None of us is an individual contributor.
What does this mean for me
This book captures what we value and what matters most. But documenting these ideas is only the beginning – what truly matters is putting them into action.
